Web site of the Week by Family PlanetFamilyPlanet.org has chosen the World Water Day 2001 web site as Web site of the Week. It will be displayed on their homepage for one week, and then will be located as a previous Website of the Week for three weeks in a row. After that the WWD site will be added to their Web Links page. Highlighting the effects that population has on the environment FamilyPlanet.org's choice to feature the WWD site was based on research they have been collecting over the past few months. While the focus on our site is regarding family planning and population, we also highlight the effects that population has on the environment. National Audubon Society is one of the partners in the Planet campaign and a supporter of www.familyplanet.org, helping to provide the site with information. Providing access to international family planning services is a critical and doable first step in preserving our planet's natural resources and saving the environment for our children and grandchildren. Because, ultimately, every living thing on this planet depends on it! Check out the link at http://www.familyplanet.org/environment.htm. One of the frequently asked questions there is How does population growth affect fresh water availability? The answer: In many countries where water shortages are already common and getting worse, high rates of population growth often exacerbate the declining availability of renewable fresh water. In 2025, depending on future population growth rates, between 1 and 3 billion people could live in areas where freshwater is scarce. For more information contact:
