RIVERS STATE as we know it today as part of the NIGER DELTA REGION of Nigeria is home to a long struggle against Environmental Degradation. While previous Legislative Framework addressed the enhancement of the environment with the aim of achieving positive and substantial change in living conditions as well as reducing diseases or health problems in the state, the RIVERS STATE WASTEWATER MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY BILL calls for the establishment of an Institutional Framework that can sustainably reduce wastewater and Recycle it for the benefit of the good people of Rivers State. The RIVERS STATE WASTEWATER MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY BILL 2017 is not a Lone Ranger because it is a direct response to the CALL of the just concluded 2017 WORLD WATER DAY. It is in compliance to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) target 6.3 that requires Nigeria (as a UN MEMBER STATE of which River State is one of her territories) by 2030 “ to improve water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping and minimizing release of hazardous chemicals and materials;
