Launching of the 2008 Latin American and Caribbean Water Prizes in Celebration of the World Water Day

The 2008 PLACA Water Prizes are now accepting nominations!
Nominations for the 2008 PLACA Water Prizes must be sent online and received by July 31, 2008.
The Latin American and the Caribbean Water Prizes – PLACA, is an initiative that promotes the International Decade for Action “Water for Life” 2005-2015 proclaimed by the United Nations. PLACA’s objectives are to recognize and to share innovative solutions to issues related to integrated water resources management in the Latin America and the Caribbean region. PLACA seeks to honor outstanding local, national and regional efforts and best practices of communities, community-based organizations, non-governmental organizations, businesses, schools, youth movements, journalists, and individuals that serve as examples to halving, by 2015, the world wide proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation.
Any community, community-based organization, non-governmental organization, business, school, youth movement, journalist, that contributes to integrated water resources management and which improves the well-being of inhabitants and ecosystems in Latin America and the Caribbean, is eligible to submit a nomination. All nominees should be active participants in or leaders of projects or activities that are ethical, environmentally sound and solution-oriented.
PLACA is an initiative of CATHALAC in partnership with CARE USA, UNICEF’s Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean, Plan’s Regional Office for the Americas, the Panama Canal Authority, UNEP’s Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, and the collaboration of Olga Sinclair, New Concept Publications and Courtyard by Marriott Panama Real Hotel.
The 2008 PLACA Water Prize categories include: PLACA Community Prize, PLACA Business Prize, PLACA Junior Prize, PLACA Media Prize, and the PLACA Lifetime Achievement Award.
