Launching of IYS and handwashing campaign

The Local Government Division (LGD) under the Ministry of LGRD & Cooperatives, the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, NGO Forum for Drinking Water Supply & Sanitation, DFID, the World Health Organization and UNICEF are jointly observing the World Water Day on 22 March 2008 around Bangladesh. On the World Water Day the International Year of Sanitation & National Hand Washing Campaign will be launched following the UN-declaration of the Year 2008 as the International Year of Sanitation.

As a part of observance of the World Water Day and the International Year of Sanitation some other events will be organized throughout the country, which include a School Visit and Cultural Programme in Dhaka; Symposium, Rally, Hand Washing Demonstration at different schools and cultural events at district level etc. WWD Symposia and rallies will be organized at district level country-wide. A leaflet on cultural performance containing messages on safe water, sanitation and hygiene issues will be published and disseminated among the mass-people.

Representatives from the relevant ministries, national and international organizations, development partners, government agencies, mass-media and other stakeholders will participate in the programmes.
