World Water Day 2008
Wasserland Steiermark
Graz, Austria, 28 Mar 08
As defined by the UN the topic of the program in Graz 2008 was "Water and sanitation. An approach through sports art and culture."
On the occasion of the reopening of the waste water plant Gössendorf (south of Graz) the public was able to join guided tours through the plant - 27 billion cubic meters of waste water from 825 km of the channels from Graz and the sourrounding are cleaned per year.
An 11,5 km long running course has been organised passing through the sewer-system under the city, which was joined by many enthusiastic athletes.
The evening event was framed with music from "Kanal 4", "Styriarte 2008 - Alles fließt" and the "Murwater Ramblers". Everybody was delighted to enjoy traditional fish soup with a glass of cool beer or simply water.
