World Water Day observed: Water For Life-VEDIC, Ganjam, India

As per decision, the organisation observed "WORLD WATER DAY-2009" in collaboration with Clean Up the World, Australia at Brahmapur city, Orissa on 22nd March 2009 at Brahmapur, Orissa. The Executive Director of the organisation Dr.(Prof.) Ganesh Prasad Panigrahi presided over the observation programme and the eminent & famous Medicine Specialist of Orissa Dr.Prafulla Chandra Sahu, Famous civil engineer of Orissa Er. Sarat Chandra Choudhury, Fmr. Jt.Director of Agriculture of Govt. of Orissa Mr. B.N.Panda were present as Chief Guest, Chief Speaker & Guest of Honour respectively.
During observation programme, all the guests and participants of the programme showed keen interest to solve the year old problem of the city i.e. supply of Drinking Water to the more than 3lakhs people. They regretted on failure of govt. policy on water supply, less interest of politicians those who are representing from the area.
Keeping this point on mind the Secretary General of the organisation suggested that the govt. of Orissa & India should prepare a separate package for supply of drinking water, implementation of State Water Policy, Ban the approval of construction of multistoried residential & commercial appartments, unauthorisedly and undiscremently withdrawal of ground water for the purpose of construction of said appartments in the city, and should take strong measures and stringent action against the officers and technical persons who were appointed in the local development authority who were giving approval of construction of appartment to the real estates and builders after taking an exgratia from real estate. At the same time, the chief speaker Mr Choudhury address the public on economic use of water in the houses, the guest of honour Mr. Panda gave suggestion to linking of Mahanadi River with Badanadi River and Rusikulya River through a canal in between Harabhanga and Chhakapada and Madhabaarida of Ganjam dist. of Orissa. And also gave a suggestions to supply of water through closed hume pipe instead of open canals. Because there is more chance of loss of water due to evaprotion, loss of seepage, and gravity and also chance of pollution of water due to open defacation of village people and bathing of animals in the canals. The Chief Guest Dr. Sahu suggested the public to use of water after proper disinfection treatement and save the human life from water borne common diseases which are shown among the people of the city.
The Coordinator(Awareness Programme) of State Pollution Control Board, Orissa Mr P.C.Dash gave suggestion on plantation of tree for more rain, conservation of water from today, create awareness among the school and college students about the economic use of water in the houses.
At last the august body of the programme decided to create awareness aomg the school & college students from time to time.

We are going to observe this day on 22nd March of this year to create awareness on conservation and judicious use of water and stop withdrawal of ground water undiscriminately and used for construction of multistoried residential apartments in existing normal residential areas and pollution of water among the residents of urban as well as rural areas of the district of Ganjam. Especially in Brahmapur city of Ganjam dist. in the state of Orissa because of non-supply sufficient quantity of drinking water to the urban residents neither by the local govt. nor by the state govt. Whereas, in other side, the local Development Authority is giving permission to the builders and real estates to use the ground water for construction of the residential apartments in the city. At the same time Post Card campaining among the residents to make and amend law for using of ground water by individual, association of persons, builders and real estate, etc.
