A national conference with more than 80 Chinese experts from all the major public institutions and also international experts (Italian, European Commision) will be held in Beijing with the purpose to present the results of the project SWIMER phase 1.
The SWIMER study aims at providing support and know-how transfer to the Chinese Authorities for the set up of strategies to develop, implement and fund through international institutions the integrated water management of the 3-H (Yellow River) and Yangtze River basins in China. The overall objective of this study is to exchange capacity and experience between Chinese, Italian and European scientific institutions.
The SWIMER project aims to develop an integrated river basin strategy that will optimise water resources management along the East Route of the South – North Diversion Project in China, between the 3-H (Yellow) and Yangtze Rivers. Such a strategy will take into account the multifaceted aspects affected by river basin management and will involve all the stakeholders playing a role in the use of the water resource. The ultimate goal of SWIMER is to identify how much water must be supplied to the regions along the East Route before reaching the northern region in order to ensure the equitable socio-economic development and environmental sustainability of the whole region.
