H2O Walk for Water / Marche pour l'Eau 2010

H2O Marche pour l'Eau 2010
Lyon & Chicago, France, 21 Mar 10

In celebration of World Water Day 2010 H2O Walk for Water will be a 5km symbolic walk through the city of Lyon. Together we will walk alongside both of Lyon's rivers carrying buckets that will be filled with water from the Saone at a certain point; this water to be thrown a while later into the Rhone, as a fun, symbolic gesture! (lets hope the wind is not blowing in our direction!) Together we will enjoy a glass of clean tap water at the water's edge.

The idea is to start at a place beginning with the letter "H" and finish at a place beginning with the letter "O"; thus "H" to "O", or "H2O"! We will be walking from Hotel de Ville to the Opera!!

Our H2O Walk for Water will be speckled with volunteers holding banners containing info about the water crisis in the developing countries, plus an exposition about water in one of the main squares. We will walk to the beats of a Batucada (percussions) and after the Walk we shall head onto one of the canal boats for a film projection (H2O A Global Challenge); this followed by an African meal and a concert with African musicians from three different countries.

All profits from our event this year are to go to charity: water, an American organisation that trains local people in the places lacking access to clean water (Africa, India... ) to dig and maintain wells. One well costs 5,000 dollars.

Our event will also be taking place in Chicago (USA) on the same day in the same manner, and the intention is to get more and more cities involved each year.
