Project WATERMAN is a HKU initiative for achieving better water environment in Hong Kong and was funded $29.76 million by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust in 2008. We aim to develop a pioneering water quality forecast and management system for Hong Kong and one of its major components is the Beach Water Quality Forecast System.

After almost two years of effort in development and careful calibration and verification, we are delighted to announce the launch of the pilot beach water quality forecast system on March 22, 2010, in celebration of the International World Water Day 2010 of which the theme this year is “Clean Water for a Healthy World”.

This pilot phase is to test the operational feasibility of the forecast system with a designated test group of invited users.

Our users may:
i. enjoy a daily water quality forecast of up to 10 HK beaches during the pilot testing phase;
ii. obtain up-to-date hydro-meteorological information of the beaches;
iii. surf through our education materials to learn more about our water environment;
iv. receive updates of our latest development and notification for new trials of our system; and
v. help improving our system by sending us your valuable views and feedback.
