MEDIA DISCUSSION TO SENSITIZE THE PUBLIC TO WORLD WATER DAY

SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL OF JAMAICA (KINGSTON)
KINGSTON, Jamaica, 22 Mar 05

The Soroptimist Club of Kingston Jamaica sarted an environmental awareness project for children in 2004. As a part of this both World Water and Earth Days were observed, and students were told, and indeed volunteered information, about the positive and negative effects of water and of the importance of planting trees in our island.

The government's Forestry Dept. very kindly donated trees for the children to plant, which they tended themselves.
Following on the donation of plants to the Shortwood United, the Soroptimists have continued to encourage environmental awareness.

On Water Day, the Chairman of the Board of the Shortwood school, a representative from the Forestry Dept, and the President of the Soroptimist Club of Kingston will appear on television to discuss World Water Day and issues surrounding the positive and negative effects of water on our lives.

Schools will be encouraged to plant trees and to learn more about the environment, following the example of the Shortwood Basic School.
