H2O for Mexico

In honor of the United Nations’ World Water Day, The Daniel and Karen May Foundation, in partnership with several other organizations and individuals, is organizing World Water Day fundraisers around the world in order to help the people of Tamaula, Guanajuato have access to clean drinking water. All funds raised through our H2O for Mexico campaign will be used to build 5,000 liter cisterns (water tanks) to catch rain water for drinking. The people of Tamaula do not have running water or a potable water source. They have been struggling to save water and ration its use due to water scarcity during the dry season, often living on less than ½ a gallon of water per person per day. A 5,000 liter cistern will allow a family of five to store rainwater for drinking and cooking for eight months of the year. We need to build 35 cisterns, one for each of 35 families. Each cistern costs $300 for materials and labor. Our goal is to raise $10,500 in donations to build thirty-five 5,000 liter cisterns in Tamaula by May of 2011.
