Making good on our promises: clean water for a healthy world

“Clean Water for a Healthy World” is the theme of World Water Day. This is about sustaining water services for people through the whole life-cycle of a water system so it does not just stop when the guarantee on the pump runs out. The life-cycle of a system sees it through all its needs for repairs, replacements, expansion and changes. It is a sort of life-long care that leads to a healthy service and healthy people.
On World Water Day, WASHCost Director Catarina Fonseca tells us the importance of life-cycle costs and focusing on people rather than infrastructure in order to sustain the services that people expect.
