Water boxes for primary and lower secondary schools in Hanoi

Hanoi Environmental Education Project
Hanoi, Viet Nam, 22 Mar 05

Aiming to increase knowledge about water related issues; the Hanoi Environmental Education Project (HEEP) organizes a workshop in which it will present its “Water-Box”. On the starting day of the new International Decade on Water, World Water Day 2005, teachers of primary and lower secondary schools in Hanoi will be given the chance to try out examples of hands on activities for their students, designed by members of the Hanoi Retraining College for Teachers and Educational Managers.

Experiencing the impact of soap on the surface tension of water, observing ink diluting in water and many other activities will increase participants’ understanding about water related issues. Fitting into the curriculum and addressing the renewed attention for science education, these experiments are integrated into Hanoi’s education system.

Teachers of 23 Primary and Lower Secondary schools in Hanoi will participate in the training after which they will receive a manual and a Water-Box with equipment to conduct the experiments. The box contains ordinary materials that are economically organized, and was created using ideas from different projects and organizations in the region and Europe.

The workshop will be held on Tuesday, March 22nd, from 8.30 AM until 11.30 AM for primary schools and from 2 PM to 5 PM for lower secondary schools. The same day, teachers participating in a teaching competition for the integration of environmental education into the curricula, will work on the preparation of their entry. Interested people and organizations can contact Toon De Bruyn at HEEP by telephone on the number 04/7340807 or send an email: gdmoitruong@yahoo.co.uk
