FRESH WATER...FRESH INITIATIVES - DOCTOR'S SEMINAR

WATERx - the safe water guidance centre from Eureka Forbes Limited had organized a half day seminar on " Fresh Water...Fresh Initiatives" to Doctors & decision makers. This seminar was intended to sensitize them for the need for an action oriented plan on controlling water borne diseases.

The seminar had a three sessions covering various aspects of water.
The Ist session was presented by Dr.N.S.Vyas, Senior Consultant, Tamilnadu Health Services, Consultant to WHO chair the first session. Dr.S.Balaji, Director of Environment had delivered the key note address. In his speech he had covered the Govt. action plan on improving the quality of water in the canals & rivers in Chennai.
The session II was chaired by Dr.Samundi Sankari, Founder Trustee of Shrusti Medical Research Foundation and she made a paper presentation on Complication of waterborne diseases in women especially at crucial stages of pregnancy and pre-natal care.

Dr.M.A.Thirunarayanan, Consultant Microbiologist of Apollo Hospitals, Chennai made a presentation on Waterborne disease an update with special reference to bacteria, virus & protozoans.

Mr.Nirmal, the Founder of Exnora International presented on interlinking of lakes in Chennai to ensure water supply & retain the ground water with specific success stories with people participation.

Session-III was chaired by Dr.Manjula Datta, Prof. & Head, Dept of Epidemiology, Dr.M.G.R. Medical University, Consultant, steering comittee on TB, WHO. She made a presentation on insights into the incidence, distribution and the control measures fro waterborne diseases.

Dr.Abhaykumar, Chief Scientist& Head of Aquadiagnostics water research & technology center, bangalore made a presentation on water purification technologies with special reference to UV technology.
