World Water Day site too successful
Google, one of the well-known search engines, celebrated World Water Day by creating a search query for 'World Water Day 2005' on its home pages worldwide.
Usually the Google logo consists of brightly coloured characters, but on 22 March 2005, this was changed to hollow characters, partially blue as if they were filled with water. By clicking on the logo, a page with the search results of the query 'World Water Day 2005' appeared. The results may differ slightly per country, but the World Water Day web site was at the number one position in most countries, sometimes at the number two position.
This created a huge amount of traffic to the site. As a result, visitors to this site got a long wait, an empty screen, or an error message.
