Walk for Water in NYC

In many communities around the world, women and children must walk up to 6 miles a day to retrieve clean water for their families. The Walk for Water on World Water Day 2006 is a symbolic act of solidarity and an effort to educate the public about the World Water Crisis. We hope you’ll join us. Event details are below.

NEW YORK CITY

Location: Dag Hammarskjold Plaza

Where to meet: Dag Hammarskjold Plaza gazebo, 47th Street and 2nd Avenue

Walk Route: Our walk will start and end at the gazebo at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, which is one block north of the United Nations. The event will kick off with a Rally that includes speakers from Starbucks, Ethos, Water for People and the DEP. We will walk south on 2nd Avenue turning right on 30th Street, until Third Avenue. We will proceed north on Third Avenue until 55th Street, where walkers will turn right and walk back down to 2nd Avenue, ending back at 47th Street. At the end of the walk, the Department of Environmental Protection and Water for People will have information tables set up and walkers will enjoy coffee service.

Participant Registration: 11:00 am-12:00 pm live music, participant registration, and opening remarks;

Walk Time: 12:15 Walk begins

Walk distance: 3 miles
