During World Water Day more than 3,500 primary school children in 40 cities and communities in the Netherlands walked six kilometres with six litres of water in a special back pack. With this action they experienced what this reality means in the daily life of many school children in the developing world. At the same time their kilometres were sponsored for small water projects in the developing world.
These sponsored walks raised 117,000 Euro, which amount was doubled to 235,000 Euro by Aqua4All and its Dutch sponsors. Sjef Ernes, director for Aqua4All, announced this at the Dutch World Water Day symposium in Delft. “The money goes to 17 simple projects that will reach 117,000 people”, Ernes said.
