World Water Day
Renmark Children's Centre Inc
Renmark, Australia, 22 Mar 07
We will celebrate World Water Day at our preschool by launching our Community Water Grant project titled 'The Limits of Water'. A large water tank collects our scarce rainwater and using a solar pump transfers water to a smaller tank for the children's use. The small tank may only be refilled if there is sufficient water and the children negotiate for a refill. This project will help children learn about environmental responsibility and sustainability in a practical way and adds to our extensive reduce, recycle, reuse program.
As we live in an area of severe drought with strict water restrictions and the threat of no water allocation in the coming year for our perennial crops we are very aware of the scarcity of water and discuss conservation practices with the children constantly.
We will promote careful use of water through many activities during the day and wear water coloured clothes. For example: we will promote catching water from the shower and using to water the garden, we will make a chalk pavement river and fly paper raindrops from the trees.
