Brazil is the largest country in South America. Due to its vast territorial dimensions, Brazil presents considerable regional diversities in economic and climatic conditions, what can influence the selection and adoption of wastewater treatment processes.

Brazil has a national system to finance water and sanitation infrastructure, and in terms of coverage of sanitation services, approximately half of the population is connected to a sewage network collection system and approximately 70% of the sewage collected in networks is treated.
