World Water Day 2001: Water for Health

Table of contents

2. Planning is key to achieving the biggest possible impact for WWD

There are two main outcomes to aim for:

  1. Attract media attention (TV, radio, newspaper) which can:
    • Increase understanding of water issues among the general public; how health can be improved and diseases reduced through water initatives.
    • Increase commitment from local leaders/politicians/government to improve the water situation and to make it accessible to everyone.

  2. Mobilize new groups and constituencies that may supplement your own efforts in voicing the necessity and need for better water conditions.

It is advisable to start well in advance by setting up a World Water Day planning committee that includes partners, organizations and motivated people. Don't delay: get started by January at the latest!

3. Organize your planning efforts
