World Water Day 2001: Water for Health

Pacific

The South Pacific Applied Geoscience Commission (SOPAC) Secretariat has for the past few years taken up the lead role for efforts for World Water Day celebrations in the Pacific region and will be doing the same for this year. Funding has been provided by the British High Commission and UNESCO. At present they are organizing several activities for member countries, which include the following:

Regionally

  • World Water Day 2001 School competition. The school competition aims to address issues in the area of “Water and Health”. A competition kit will be provided for participating schools.
  • Development and Distribution of Publication Material, in collaboration with SPREP (South Pacific Regional Environment Program)
    • A3 Poster/Brochure,
    • Fact Sheet,
    • Stickers
    • Articles for newspapers and magazines (Press Packs) to run their campaign.

In Fiji

  • “World Water Day 2001" Fun Day - An awareness day to be held on March 22nd at Sukuna Park in central Suva. The open day would include displays, demonstrations, mini quizzes and spot prizes. SOPAC will also collaborate with WHO - Suva Office in combining efforts to celebrate the day.
  • Advertising “World Water Day 2001" campaign and school competitions in the media.

SOPAC has prepared a website for World Water Day 2001.
