Organized preparation and printing of 3000 copies of the WWD kit which was distributed to all the countries of the Region. Ten copies of this kit have been sent to HQs also.
Deputy Regional Director/SEARO addressed a communication along with a set of guidelines to all WHO Representatives in the Region drawing their attention to the upcoming WWD and encouraging them to support country-level activities in coordination with other UN agencies/bilaterals.
- A formal release of the publication "Water for Health -Taking Charge" was held.
- To mark the occasion a special press briefing was organized on 21 March 2001 where prominent members of the print/electronic media were invited. The event received wide publicity in both print and electronic media. A copy of the press release issued on this occasion attached.
- Mr Avinash Zutshi, In-charge-of Water/Sanitation Programme at the Netherlands Embassy in New Delhi was associated with all the above activities.
WWD activities were organized in two cities with 'water quality concerns' as the theme. A national seminar has been planned for November 2001.
The main function was organized at Teen Murti House, New Delhi, which was addressed, amongst others, by Indian Union Minister for Water Resources. This received wide coverage in the national press/TV. The programme was attended by several representatives of UN and other bilateral agencies, active in the field of water/sanitation -including WHO Representative to India and Programme Officer-I/C of Water/Sanitation programme at Netherlands Embassy in New Delhi. A display of water/sanitation related publications was also organized on this occasion.
One day Seminar was organized in Jakarta to sensitize the select 100 participants of the need for development and conservation of this important resource. The participants included representatives of universities, donor agencies, government institutions, Directorate General of CDC and representatives of TV and mass media.
Besides the above countries where Dutch funds were made available, reports have been received on the WWD activities organized in several countries, like, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand, ESCAP-Bangkok, Thailand.
