The World Water Day celebration is organized jointly by two federal agencies, the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and Environment Canada (EC). A number of other government departments, NGO's and communities also support the program.
The federal program, which targets employees, includes the following activities:
Children's art contest on water and human health. Best entries will receive prizes and public acknowledgment.
Photograph contest. Best photographs will be used for a proposed freshwater themed calendar for 2002.
Showing of video and films on water issues.
Public speaking program.
Awards and recognition certificates to those staff members who have contributed most to water awareness and water development in the past twelve months.
Preparation and distribution of pamphlets, leaflets, and fact sheets.
Engaging the media to raise public awareness and recognize the role of the civil society.
Setting up of exhibits and displays on March 19 - 22 which will be open to the public. Information will be distributed and questions will be answered by water experts.
Use of the Internet to communicate messages and engage the public in skill testing on water knowledge.
