a nation wide programme on the importance of sanitary practices, hygienic behaviours and health promotion;
a one day programme in Kathmandu.
For the first time in Nepal WWD celebration is being conducted up to community level in five regions and in each region to five districts. In total 1,000 Village Development Committees (VDC's) are involved. The messages concentrate on how to use water in an hygienic manner, prevent pollution of the sources, share knowledge on the dangers of drinking unsafe water, and simple household disinfection manners.
All this is being done in concert with a mass movement on sanitation, as an effective means of breaking the link between (fecal) contamination and diseases.
In a one-day meeting in Kathmandu, Government persons, Members of Parliament, NGO's , UN agencies, women organizations , consumers associations, and media, are assembling to hold interactive sessions on the central topic of Water and Health.
There will also be a contest for identifying those persons who have made outstanding contributions in the WSS sector.
The Ministries of Health, Ministry of Water Supply, and the Ministry of Environment are organizing the WWD programme with technical input from the WHO country staff.
