World Water Day 2001: Water for Health

For the 9th time, Rwanda celebrates the World Day of Water on the topic WATER and HEALTH. A preparatory meeting on the World Day of Water was held at 2 Marc with the Ministry for Energy, Water and Natural resources. At the end of this meeting the following recommendations were agreed and submitted to the Minister and to the protocol of the State for amendment and approval. The date was deferred to 26 Mars 2001 to allow dignitaries of the State to take part in the ceremonies, which will coincide with the inauguration of a treatment station of drinking water in Ngenda, in the area of Bugesera.

For 22 March , the Minister for water will make a speech for the nation being reported on this year's topic: WATER and HEALTH. Television and radio debates are also envisaged. Visits on ground are scheduled to review the achievements of the community-based water and sanitation pilot project supported by the Ministry, UNICEF and CARE INTERNATIONAL in the 6 communities of Butare.

In the provisional WWD programme on the 26th representatives of UN agencies and bilateral donors will participate.
