World Water Day 2001: Water for Health

Overview of events

WWD 2001 Event
Australia/India, GREEN events

Oz GREEN (Global Rivers Environmental Education Network Australia Inc) is organizing two WWD events.

  • “Hands around Dee Why Lagoon” - Dee Why Lagoon and wetlands have just been placed on the Schedule 1 list as an endangered ecological community. More than 500 local school children businesses and residents will join hands along the lagoon to act as a symbolic barrier to pollution. This will be linked to a simultaneous “Hands along the Ganges” in Varanasi India (1.30pm Sydney Time, 8.00am Varanasi Time)
  • “Drink only Water on World Water Day” Appeal. To draw attention to the global water crisis, Oz GREEN supporters are drinking only water for the day - to raise funds to support community catchment protection projects in India, East Timor and Papua New Guinea.
