Lao P.D.R., WWD Celebrations

| Venue: | Central celebration - Vientiane 4 Provincial sites - Houaphan, Sekong, Borikhamxai, and Oudomxay | |
| Organizer: | Nam Saat (the Lao Water Agency) with assistance from WHO as the lead international agency this year. Nouanta Maniphousay, Director of Nam Saat, is leading the organizing. Dean Shuey has been coordinating the WHO inputs. | |
| Theme: | Handwashing for Better Health |
Activities in Vientiane
- Launch of a sticker campaign about handwashing by the Lao Youth Union with UNICEF support.
- Competition in schools for drawing of pictures and writing of slogans concerning the WWD theme. Will be held in Vientiane and the four provinces. Winners will be announced, prizes given, and winners displayed at WWD. Main financial sponsor is WSP/EAP (World Bank funded water project).
- Puppet show to be shown at WWD and also to be videoed and made available to Lao TV and on cassette.
- Exhibition/Demonstrations - includes Delagua Water Testing, home chlorination, Tippy-Tap, Osmotic bag for purifying, various pumps, latrine options, educational videos, educational posters. (Nam Saat, WHO, UNICEF, NGOs)
- Football match - Ministry of Education vs. Ministry of Health.
- Each province is organizing their own programme on the same theme with similar activities.
