Ghana - national programme
In Ghana, a National Planning Committee comprising the Water Resources Commission, the Ghana Water Company Ltd., the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, the Water Research Institute, the Hydrological Services Department, the Meteorological Services Department and the Environmental Protection Agency has been set up to plan the celebration of the World Water Day.
There would be a flag raising ceremony in front of the Ghana Water Company Office in Accra on the day of the celebration, at which a representative of the UN would read the World Water Day message. The Minister for Works and Housing as well as the Minister of Health will address the gathering. During the week before and after the day, plans for other public awareness programmes such as radio talk shows and “open days” would be organised. Promotional items like T-shirts and posters. The Northern region Community Water and Sanitation Agency is also organising an awards day in Tamale to celebrate the occasion.
