| SCOPE appeals for urgent Donations for rainwater harvesting project for Drought hit areas of Sindh Kohistan Society for Conservation and Protection of Environment (SCOPE) is a 12 years old NGO which is working to protect environment and natural resources. SCOPE is accredited with the high profile bodies of United Nations and working for the implementation of UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) with the help of Government of Pakistan and other stakeholders. In 1999, SCOPE has initiated “Water For Life Project” in different villages of drought hit areas of Sindh Kohistan. Under this project it is building small check dams and pools to collect rainwater. This water is consumed for drinking purpose for human beings and animals. These check dams and ponds also helps in recharging groundwater. So far water harvesting ponds have been developed at Haji Nabi Buksh Goth, Ghazi Khan village, Tehar Mohammad village, Khar Gadap, Haji Noor Mohammad village. Khar Dam at Gadap has proven to be extremely successful as it has helped in raising groundwater level in its vicinity. The agricultural lands, which were turned barren due to persistent droughts, have now again become lush green productive, due to the Khar Dam's water recharging. SCOPE has set target of developing water harvesting ponds at further 50 villages in Gadap and Mol Union Councils, during the current monsoon season. The average cost of building a small check dam or water harvesting pond is US $. 2,000 - 20,000. SCOPE sends an urgent appeal for donations from philanthropists, corporate organizations and international donors to contribute in this humanitarian and environmental support project. SCOPE and villages communities would acknowledge the donations by projecting the names of donors or (their loved ones, on whose names they want to dedicate project) on the project sign boards.
