National Holy Wells Day

Pope Francis calls on all of us to care for “Our Common Home”

Loving Sister Earth (LSE) is an Irish group promoting an ecological conversion whereby we learn to live in harmony with each other and with creation. Ireland’s long Celtic tradition has deep roots in Nature, and LSE is tapping into the energy of these roots which help to identify us as a people. They are in Newman’s words the storehouse of the past and the birthplace of the future. The interconnectedness of all things now established by science has long been intuited in a profound way by native spiritualities, including the Celtic. There are more than 3,000 Holy Wells in Ireland: for many generations our ancestors have gathered at these to pray. LSE promotes a “National Holy Wells Day” (NHWD) on which people are invited to go to their local Holy Well to thank God for the gift of water and to pray for its protection and fair distribution. They also discuss what practical steps to take in their own lives and locality to conserve water. National Holy Wells Day will take place this year, 2019 on June 16th. For details visit our website
