Save the only Lifeline of “Riparian Punjab”: Water
Punjab is the riparian state in the northwestern part of the Indian subcontinent. Despite being the land of rivers, today, the region is facing major water issues. Due to Indian policies, water resources of Punjab have been over-exploited either to produce food for feeding the ever-increasing human population or by distributing water to adjacent non-riparian states of Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan setting economic and resource loss for the region. Another key factor involves the water-pollution, mainly including the waste untreated water thrown in Punjab rivers by unregulated industries of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. Southwestern Punjab needs more attention as subsidized fertilizers to produce more for India led this region to the hub of “Cancer” due to an increase in the number of patients every year. The pumping of water for irrigation using the submersible pumps is a threat for the future. We conduct seminars, discussions, and conferences to aware people of the anti-Punjab governmental policies, the importance of “saving water”, future of the region, and importantly the socio-economic and religiopolitical impacts in the northwestern Indian subcontinent.
