Students become water researchers
For the World Water Day, students from the 9th and 10th grade from schools in Sofia, Bulgaria, will turn into real water researchers. The Children’s Scientific Laboratory Initiative is organized by Sofiyska Voda, a part of Veolia and The Department of General and Applied Hydrobiology at the Faculty of Biology, Sofia University “St. Kl. Ohridski “. The Department of General and Applied Hydrobiology will open the doors of their own laboratory so that young people could research the qualities and life-giving powers of water in a realistic environment. Under the leadership of university lecturers, they will make real science experiments, find out the indicators which water is going through, measure the chemical parameters of drinking and natural waters, and also educate themselves on how to create their own laboratory.The youngsters will explore biodiversity in the waters, finding themselves in real aquariums with fish, crabs, zooplankton, and under microscope will explore microorganisms and others. The initiative is held annually by Sofiyska Voda, a part of Veolia and the Department of General and Applied Hydrobiology at the Faculty of Biology, Sofia University “St. Kl. Ohridski “.
