UNIFIL promoting the call to actions ” Do you use water wisely?” on the World Water Day
In the week of World Water Day 2019, a group of about 30 water and wastewater experts from UN Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions attended a training at UNIFIL in Lebanon. The last day of the training (22 March) coincided with World Water Day, so, focused on the year’s theme “leaving no one behind.” The group made a special effort to support UNIFIL’s Environmental Management Unit in promoting WWD and sustainable water use around the Mission’s main base to promote the call to actions “Do you use water wisely?” This is a part of a global awareness campaign, launched by the UN Department of Operational Support, to improve water, waste and energy management in UN Field Missions. The team broke into groups and each set out for different areas of the camp where they engaged with as many people as possible and put up water wise posters and stickers where they would be noticed: in popular areas and especially in or near kitchens, cleaning stations and ablution blocks.
