Primer on arsenic contamination

Arsenic is a poison that causes many illnesses and can be fatal. An estimated 140 million people in at least 70 countries are exposed to arsenic in drinking water above WHO’s (World Health Organization) guideline value.

UNICEF and WHO’s Arsenic Primer: Guidance on the Investigation and Mitigation of Arsenic Contamination is designed for UN agencies, governments and partners in responding to the discovery of arsenic in drinking water. The primer is designed to mitigate and help balance the risks of arsenic contamination versus other potential contaminants.
