Strengthening the capacity of new water service providers in Ethiopia

The Global Water Operators’ Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA) Secretariat and UNICEF Ethiopia have entered into an agreement to strengthen the capacity of new water service providers in Bidre, Bulle, and Doyo Gena Towns located in the Oromia and SNNPR Regions of Ethiopia, respectively.

After the successful completion of diagnostic visits to water utilities in the three towns, GWOPA and UNICEF Ethiopia will now establish Water Operators’ Partnerships (WOPs).

The two-week-long diagnostic mission was conducted successfully by the UNICEF WASH team along with internaitonal mentor National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) Uganda, two local mentors, Ambo Water Supply and Sewerage Enterprise and Wolaita Sodo Water Supply and Sewerage Enterprise, Regional Water Bureaus and Town Administrations of the three towns.

The next step will be an exposure visit in March 2023 involving the three mentees and local mentors to the NWSC in Kampala, Uganda, followed by the development of action plans to improve water services in Bidre, Bulle, and Doyo Gena Towns.
