Known as the “source of the earth”, the Lake Baikal in Siberia is one of the largest freshwater reservoirs in the world. The lake is also the location for the Swiss extreme athlete Ernst Bromeis next project.

Ernst Bromeis currently plans an expedition here, to raise awareness of why water should be at the very top of our priorities and of what it takes to protect our planet’s most important resource.

According to Bromeis, the aim of this expedition is “to win water ambassadors worldwide, to work for the most precious commodity on planet Earth”, emphasising his message that water is finite and that without water, there is no life.

The 51-year-old extreme athlete not only plans to swim the length of the 800 kilometres Lake Baikal, but doing it without accompanying boat and only a team of three to four people on land.
